EGMOND AAN DEN HOEF – Just as fishing was once done at Egmond aan Zee, Huizen also has a history as a fishing town. That is where Marian and Karen live, and Marian’s work continues to feature that sea. You can also see ebb and flow in Karen and Barbara’s work. There’s a lot of great stuff on display again at De Kapberg gallery.
Karen Molleman
Karen Molleman creates paintings with acrylic paint. She exhibits at De Kapberg with mostly small work inspired by the cycle of life. Karen has been a professional visual artist for more than 40 years. Her work is characterized by strong images and use of color that evokes tension. For this exhibition, she has chosen “we carry the sea in all our cells” as the common thread.
Barbara Hoyng
Barbara Hoyng is a sculptor. She works after nature. Especially with the stone sculptures, it is important to her that in sizes and proportions no violence is done to the essential form. Even when forms are realized that are far from “nature,” we are dealing with relationships, a balance that is reason to look and keep looking. Barbara makes beautiful (working) drawings that are on display at the exhibition.
Marian Mutsaers
As a visual artist, Marian Mutsaers has been visualizing her passions for years. Marian draws inspiration from photographs of mostly newspapers with subjects she is touched by (e.g., vulnerability, impermanence, anger and nature). Music and modern ballet are also often sources from which she draws. The spatial work arises more by gradually letting the process of making be the process.
