Bike

Biking to the Three Egmonds.

Whichever way you approach the 3 Egmonden, through the meadows, the dunes or along the bulb fields, it is always a wonderful, varied ride on a good bike path.

From Alkmaar

From Alkmaar, follow the bike path along the Hoeverweg, but if you are not in a hurry, it is recommended to take the Meerweg through the Egmondermeer. This winding road begins on the west side of the parking lot at ice rink the Meent. Later you will rejoin the Hoeverweg, which leads naturally past the foundations of Egmond Castle and toward the beach of Egmond aan Zee.

From Heiloo

From Heiloo, take the Zeeweg to Egmond aan den Hoef. An alternative route is via the Maalwater through the meadows of the Egmondermeer, the Zomerdijkje and the Mosselaan. To Egmond-Binnen, take the Vennewatersweg. You will then naturally pass the abbey and the road goes along the Adelbertusakker through the dunes to the other Egmonden.
egmond-small-2The bike path from Bergen is also picture-perfect. Before Egmond aan den Hoef, just past the former Karmel monastery, you can also turn right on the Delverspad to Egmond aan Zee. The Delverspad joins the Egmonderstraatweg. After a few hundred meters you can turn left and take the Van Oldenborghweg that goes along the dunes to Egmond-Binnen. After the first houses of Egmond-Binnen, turn right onto the Oude Schulpweg and there you will find the gate of the Adelbertusakker. The village itself and the abbey are a short distance away.

By Train

If you arrive by train in Castricum or Alkmaar, you can also rent a bike there. Very attractive is a subscription to the OV-fiets for around ten Euro per year. You register via the Internet (www.ov-fiets.nl) and can then simply rent an OV-fiets with a pass for € 2.85 per day. Settlement is through the bank. Keep in mind that it takes a few weeks after registration for everything to be arranged. We spotted very enthusiastic people in Egmond with a fine bike without gears.

Bike tour

A bike ride through Egmond’s causeways. A bicycle tour in the area of the Egmonden is wonderful and also recommended for groups. If you choose the route through the dunes, please make sure you have dune access tickets. Day passes are for sale at the dune entrances and the manager of the dunes the PWN can give you information about it including at visitor center De Hoep near Bakkum in the dunes. A beautiful, educational place and free to attend. (www.pwn.nl) Those who come more often are better off with an annual pass. The cards have changed. Sometimes it is more advantageous not to buy a family pass, but individual annual passes. On a longer trip, you will also enjoy a bicycle and hiking map of the North Holland Dune Reserve. The options for a picnic or other breaks are many. and you can (also using this site) plan your tour so that you pass by some of the historic sites in the Egmond Mountains. A free bike/walking route is available at the abbey store, the PWN also have some things for sale such as the beautiful “Derpersroute.

( duneaccess card is required) and available at Boekhandel dekker in Egmond aan Zee.

This film starts in the Cook Valley, the intersection of blue and orange. How nice it would be if a paved bicycle path was built from Egmond aan Zee to the Woudweg (the orange part) an extension of the van Oldenborghweg.
It will then be possible to cycle from Wijk aan Zee through the PWN and Staatsbosbeheer nature reserve to Camperduin. (The boundaries of the new Municipality “by the Sea”
