What is short track trotting?

For people who are not familiar with the phenomenon of short-track trotting, here is a brief explanation; It is a race with hard trotters (horses), which is usually not held on a trotting track, but on a course marked off for the occasion in a street or in a meadow. Normally trotted in a straight line of about 300 meters. In Egmond, however, it is made a little more difficult for participants since there is a bend in the course.

Competition with 26 horses

The competition generally begins with 26 horses. They then compete for a place in the finals according to the knockout system.

Short track races are run under the auspices of the Dutch Trotting and Racing Foundation. This includes extensive veterinary control, competition being judged by sworn competition commissioners (judges) and the opportunity for the public to place bets with the horse lottery.

Betting on short track trotting

The sport of short track is exciting and spectacular. To best experience the sport, having a preference for one or more of the participants is of great value. For one afternoon, it’s like owning the horse you played. Anyone over the age of 16 can place a bet from as little as 0.50 euros.

Betting on the short track

Betting on the short track is done at the totalizer wagon which is set up in a prominent spot. You tell the clerk at the counter what and how you want to play, and you can collect any winnings at the end of the afternoon. The amount won depends on your bet, the total bet and the number of people who made the same prediction. The fewer people who made the same bet as you, the higher the payout per euro deposited. You have several wid options. Note that horses for the totalizer always retain the number from the first round.

Winscore

Do you want an extra element of excitement on every ride in the first circulation? Then play winscore. For each ride, you predict which horse will advance to the second round by placing a cross on the win score sheet. You can pick up this form for free at the totalizer car. After the first round, are you the one with the fewest mistakes? Then you will get paid. The fewer people made as many mistakes as you did, the higher the payout.

The minimum bet is 2 euros. Please note that you must turn in your win score form at the totalizer’s special win score office. Winscore you cannot play online.

Trio

Trio is a difficult but lucrative game. Namely, you predict the first three horses in the final results in the correct order. Can you manage this? Then you can usually count on a hefty payout! Can’t choose which order to play your horses in? Then choose tri-round. Your bet goes times six, but the order in the final score in not important. You are placing six different bets, so to speak. When trialing on the short track, keep in mind the special duo and trio numbers. These are printed in the program. Horses 1 and 2 in the first round are number 1, horses 3 and 4 are number 2 and so on. So you are actually playing two horses per song
at the same time. The minimum bet is 0.50 euros. You can play trio only for the first circulation.

Quartet

Those looking for a real challenge should play quartet. This game works the same as trio, only you have to correctly predict the first four in the outcome.

Location

The Egmond Short Course will be held on the Herenweg in Egmond aan den Hoef.

The start is near the intersection with Egmonderstraatweg / Julianaweg, and the finish is towards the intersection with Prinses Irenelaan. The totalizer’s wagon, where bets can be placed, is across from café the Red Deer, at the intersection of Herenweg with Slotweg.

Winning

You bet on the eventual winner of the short-course race. You can choose between the participating horses still in contention for each round (except the deciding round/final). Starting at 1 euro per bet, you can play as many horses as you want.

Duo

You predict which two horses will finish first and second at the end of the afternoon. The order of who finishes first and second is important here. Can’t choose? Then play duo round.

For example, when you play duo 1 and 2 around, you automatically double your bet, but the order in the final score is irrelevant. You are placing two different bets, so to speak. When dueling on the short course, keep in mind the special duo and trio numbers. These are printed in the program.

Horses 1 and 2 in the first round are duo 1, horses 3 and 4 are duo 2 and so on. So you are actually playing two horses per number at the same time. The minimum bet is 0.50 euros. You can play duo only for the first circulation.

Location

With a place bet, the place you play must finish among the first three in the final results. Because the risk of not winning anything is lower than with a winning bet, payouts with place are on average lower than with win. You can play for any round (except the deciding round/final) place. Keep in mind that for a round in which fewer than eight horses start, only the first two horses are paid out for a place bet.
