The cartoonist has not appeared in public for several years. The Utrechtian became world famous for his relatively simple but highly recognizable drawings. Bruna wrote and illustrated no fewer than 124 picture books and also designed many posters and covers for the Zwarte Beertjes paperback books.<\/p>\n

Cartoonist Dick Bruna has turned 89 years old (16-02-2016). Bruna died in his sleep. <\/em><\/p>\n

The wooden boat is an initiative of association Dorpsbelangen Egmond ‘Pearl’ aan Zee’. The association wants to immortalize Egmond as the “Miffy Village” with the placement of the boat on the “Miffy by the Sea” plaza. The world-famous rabbit “Miffy” already has a museum in Utrecht, Dick Bruna’s hometown.<\/p>\n

Visitors can sit in the boat for a nice photo with Miffy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Miffy by the sea ”Pleintje” was christened together with the Miffy boat by Mr. Dick Bruna himself who had been approached by the Association Dorpsbelangen Egmond and the Miffy boat was made under the direction of Mr. Chiel Zwaanswijk by the men who also built ”De pinck”. Mr. Bruna drew Miffy about 50 years ago for his son on the beach of Egmond aan zee,so in this beautiful ”Derp” Miffy was born and is still read to by Papa,Mama, Grandpa, Grandma, etc,etc.<\/div>\n

Bruna has also been creating a furor internationally with his work since the 1960s. Especially in Japan, Bruna’s work is highly regarded, as his style fits perfectly with the prevailing preference for minimalism. Dick Bruna’s books have been published in more than fifty languages. In total, more than 85 million copies were sold<\/p>\n
