NORTH HOLLAND NORTH – Travelers can now travel in more public transport regions- and check out with a contactless debit or credit card – and on their mobile too. Connexxion introduces this new payment method in all its buses. With this introduction, more than a million residents of North Holland can pay on the bus almost without a threshold. Within a few weeks,- and check-out with your debit card or credit card is possible for residents of Noord-Holland Noord.

As in- and check out with a debit or credit card, no longer needs a separate OV chip card or separate ticket. Taking the bus spontaneously is getting easier. For people who occasionally travel by public transport and for foreign tourists, in- and checking out with a debit or credit card is therefore a solution.

Public transport payment will change in the coming years. The OV chip card will have a successor and new payment methods will be added. Travelers will soon decide for themselves how they want to pay. These new forms of payment are being introduced nationally by the joint public transport companies under the umbrella name OVpay.

In- and checking out with a debit or credit card is one of those new forms of payment. This is possible in more and more regions. An up-to-date overview can be found at For Connexxion it is an addition to the existing options for traveling with the OV chip card or with a barcode..

How does it work?

Traveling with a debit card is very easy – exactly the same as the OV chip card: a traveler checks in with a contactless debit card, plastic or on a mobile – and start the journey. When leaving the bus, the traveler checks out with the same debit card. The price for the trip is the same as traveling with an OV chip card without a discount or subscription. At a later stage, it will also be possible to link discount products to a debit or credit card.

The costs of trips made on one day are added together and debited as one total amount on the following night; that total amount is visible to the traveler on the payment overview of the relevant bank or credit card provider. Travelers can find their travel overview by entering the code stated in the payment overview at

Pay attention: use the correct map

The possibility to enter- and to check out with a debit card or credit card, you have to pay attention to OV chip card users. Just like with contactless payment in the supermarket, the traveler must hold the correct card in front of the card reader. Now some travelers keep their wallet or phone case with a debit card, credit card and an OV chip card for the card reader. It is therefore possible that the travel costs are not settled via the OV chip card, but will be debited from the bank account. Therefore, make sure that your card of choice – debit card – is debited, credit card or public transport chip card – and offers it at check-in/check-out.
