A first step for people with dementia and their partners

EGMOND AAN ZEE – PostaanZee is involved in the coastal village and active in various fields. The atmospheric light space opposite the bus station on the Voorstraat has already become a dear meeting center for many for all kinds of things and as a starting point for walks.. “Move people and connect them”, that is briefly summarized what the volunteer organization aims at. The Egmonders have developed a beautiful place for each other in the former tourist office, which is increasingly proving itself for all kinds of activities and programs and also as the library of the village. Tuesday was a new official moment: PostaanZee received the sticker 'Dementia friendly together' from Christa de Groot of the Dementia junction, North Kennemerland department.

With the sticker PostaanZee shows that all volunteers have followed a course to receive and help people with early dementia.. That also applies to their partners or circle of acquaintances. It is mainly intended for people who still live at home, or live in an open department in, for example, the Prins Hendrik foundation. “Understanding and empathy, that's what it's all about when you meet someone, which you think is the beginning of forgetfulness.” PostaanZee wants to contribute to the signaling function. “Making eye contact, don't ask too much at once", says Christa. “Say what you do and do what you say”, then it goes very well in contact with someone with a possible onset of dementia”. Wil Koper from PostaanZee adds on behalf of the volunteers who are there this afternoon: “We are already quite used to it here. The course was actually kind of an extension of what we already do here. We are open to everyone who comes in here, of any nationality, with any idea”. Also look at postaanzee.nl or call 072 5822310.
