The Egmond New Year's Dive is also one of the many events that are canceled due to the lurking corona danger. Organizers Tom Valkering and Hidde van der Pol announced this on Thursday morning.
The Egmond New Year's Dive is estimated to be attracting annually 6000 visitors to Egmond aan Zee. According to the organizers, various alternatives have been considered for the New Year's Dive 2021 safely organized in the current situation. “Given the large number of divers and visitors from last year, we find this irresponsible for the next edition. Our aim has always been to give as many people as possible a pleasant day in Egmond. A slimmed-down shape, whereby we must discourage people from coming to Egmond on New Year's Day, is not an option for us. That is why we have decided that we do the Egmond New Years Dive from 2021 will not organize.”
The organizers strongly advise, after consultation with the Egmond Rescue Brigade, not to take a dip yourself 1 January. “Hypothermia and currents are risks that should not be underestimated! The beach and the sea are large and there will be no supervisors and emergency services”.
