Transferium at Hogedijk Egmond-Binnen

This year, the municipality of Bergen will provide a transfer point in Egmond-Binnen on summer days in July and August. A car park will be made available on the edge of the village where visitors can park their car and then board a bus that will take them to the beach. The parking lot is located on the Hogedijk in Egmond-Binnen. The bus takes visitors to the boulevard in Egmond aan Zee.

The municipality of Bergen is a beautiful, versatile municipality. Many visitors therefore know how to find their way to the special village centers of Bergen, Egmond and Schoorl. Especially in good weather, the municipality receives many tourists and recreationists. The tourists and holidaymakers are welcome, but at the same time ensure high traffic- and parking pressure. This creates friction in the field of accessibility and quality of life. This applies to both residents, the entrepreneurs, the holidaymakers but also for emergency- and emergency services. The parking pressure is caused by a shortage of available parking spaces in the cores, at the so-called peak moments.

on warm, sunny days open

If, according to the weather forecast, the sun is going to shine and the temperature is above the 25 degrees comes, does the transferium open?. Each week, various media channels of the municipality of Bergen indicate which days these are. The transferium is open from 10.30 hour. The first shuttle bus then leaves from the parking lot to Egmond aan Zee. The last ride is at 19.30 hours from the boulevard in Egmond aan Zee to the Hogedijk. The aim is to arrive every 15 minutes from both places (parking lot and boulevard) to let a bus leave. There can be a maximum of 24 people on the bus.

Choice for Hogedijk

The Hogedijk in Egmond-Binnen has been chosen, because this is an existing parking lot of about 100 public parking spaces. This is a good example of double use and making the best use of the parking capacity in the municipality of Bergen. In the months of July and August, the parking lots are used less by the surrounding sports associations, except for a few tournament days. During the tournaments the use of the transferium will be adjusted.

Pilot Project

The deployment of the transferium is a pilot, a pilot project. It is therefore about maximum 25 days. The pilot allows the municipality to see whether beach visitors can be tempted to get to their destination in a different way. After the summer it will be discussed whether it is successful and whether there will be a sequel.

If local entrepreneurs want to participate in the pilot, by, for example, offering bicycle rental, are they most welcome. The municipality is discussing this with the entrepreneurs' association Egmond aan Zee.

Free parking and use of the bus

The use of the car park and the shuttle bus is free.
