Last year there was a large group that took a dip on New Year's Day on their own. The benefits Swimming in the cold sea can strengthen your immune system in the long term, it has an anti-inflammatory effect, improves blood circulation, your body produces endorphins and adrenaline as well as serotonin.

Sylvester Reimers from crossfit club Sero from Alkmaar has managed to get a whole group to jump into the water. “Last year there were three of us, but now with a man or twelve, the group is getting bigger. Now all together with the chocolate milk with rum. We deserved that.”

Although the official New Year's dive was canceled because of corona, there were a lot of people in Egmond aan Zee today 2022 start fresh. With a temperature of thirteen degrees and a sun it was good to be on the beach.

Yet for many New Year's divers it was a bit of a struggle when they jumped into the cold North Sea. Not everyone was equally enthusiastic about the temperature of the water. “It's my first time and I thought I should do it for myself. It was really hard, but it does give a kick.” A younger New Year's diver has put on a hat just to be sure. “I hardly feel my legs anymore but next year we will probably do it again.”
